I had the privilege of seeing him in the late ’50’s at Piedmont Drag Strip outside Greensboro, NC. People look at me like I am nuts when I tell them the story about a guy who had a motorcycle with a V8 engine bolted to its frame and how he had the center kick stand mounted to the rear of the bike and how all a sudden after it was wound up another guy came to the back and literally pushed the bike off the stand at which time the bike spun the tires almost all the way down the track. Now, after showing them this article, they will have to admit that I was in fact not crazy and making this story up. That day made a lasting impression on my life.
